If I am have menstruation l periods does it mean that I am ovulating?
No! Ovulation is not synonymous with menstruation periods

If I am have menstruation l periods does it mean that my tubes are open?
No! Menstruation periods are due to hormonal functions, yet tubes are a means of transport for the ova or fertilized egg.


What kind of exercise can I do while I am in a treatment cycle?

We recommend that you avoid excessive, strenuous exercise once you start the stimulation medication during a treatment cycle. You should avoid high impact aerobics. It is very important to stay well hydrated, but you can still be active. Some recommended activities include walking, swimming, biking, hiking and yoga.

Why do you want me to take birth control pills?

Birth control pills have several functions. They help to regulate the menstrual cycle so that there is a steady hormone release. They help to thin the lining of the uterus to prepare youfor an IVF or frozen treatment cycle. They also help to decrease the presence/size of cyststhat may be left over from the previous month. Finally, they may help to synchronize the bestgroup of follicles to lead into stimulation.

Are headaches and breakthrough bleeding normal while I am taking the...

Unfortunately, those are common side effects of both medications. For the headaches, you may take Extra Strength Tylenol every 4 – 6 hours as needed. If you have any dizziness or blurred vision, please call the nursing office. Microgynon will cause your period to start. Spotting or bleeding is normal while on Micogynon

What is the purpose of the baby aspirin?

One 75mg baby aspirin is often recommended to help thin the blood, which may increaseblood flow to the uterus to create a better uterine lining for implantation to occur. YourDoctor will advise you if this is recommended for you. If you are taking this medication,please stay on it through your pregnancy. Your Dr will advise you to discontinuearound 36 weeks gestation.

Is it okay if I take my stimulation medications a little late?

There is about a two-hour window in which to take your stimulation injection. It does nothave to be at the exact same time each night, but be consistent and try to keep it within athree-hour window. We recommend 8AM-11AM in case your taking your medicines in the morning. Those who are taking it in the evening between 7pm-11pm

Is it okay to take the HCG shot later than instructed?

No! It is critical to take the shot at the time you are instructed by IVF Nurse (Matron) or Dr Sali or his assistant.The egg retrieval is timed precisely 36 hours after this injection.

Should I take my medication on the day of the embryo transfer?

All the injections stop on the day you take this last injection HCG.However Oral tablets like baby aspirin, Folic acid do continue. When you arrive for transfer, you will get new instructions regarding theVaginal pessaries (the estrogen/progesterone supplement) which must be taken till the pregnancy test. And if you become pregnant these continue at least for 3 months.

Is it normal to have cramping and colored discharge after my embryoTransfer?

It is normal to have some minor cramping after transfer. It is also normal to havedischarge that has a brown/red/gray appearance (especially if you are taking theUtrogestan Pessaries).

Can you tell if I am pregnant with twins by the results of the HCGLevel?

There is no way to tell by the numbers alone if you could be pregnant with morethan one fetus. We will do our best to suggest what the numbers might mean, butthe only way to know for sure is when you have your gestational ultrasound (done2 weeks-4 weeks after a positive pregnancy.

Why do my spouse and I need to have infectious disease testing updated for a frozen embryo replacement (FER) cycle?

This is for your protection and ours and is consistent with standard guidelines. Wehave to be able to document that both intended parents are free from infectiousdisease prior to embryo transfer. Even though we are not using a fresh sperm specimen,If the male partner were infected with HIV or hepatitis, he could transmit itto his wife and the fetus. If there is an infection, it must be documented and thepatients counseled prior to embryo transfer.
